Crazy For Cairns
There’s a reason that Cairns continually pops up on Australians’ most wanted travel lists. It’s quite possibly one of the best places to be in the Australian winter – and if you’re in a city that shivers through July and August, then 26 degrees, sunshine, and low humidity make Cairns a much better option!
The lovely temperature makes it perfect for visiting some of the region’s most famous attractions, including the Great Barrier Reef. During winter the waters here are clear and blue, so unlike many places, winter is peak season for Cairns. The Daintree National Park is another ideal attraction to visit during winter. The lack of humidity can make exploring the rainforest more pleasant than during other months, but Cairns is still Cairns, so if you’re exploring the rivers you’ll need to watch out for crocodiles!
Other lesser known but equally worthwhile (and cheap!) things to add to your Cairns travel list include:
- Doing not much at all on one of the stunning beaches (and winter falls outside stinger season, so you can even take a dip if you want!)
- Swimming in a volcanic crater
- Visit the largest butterfly sanctuary in the southern hemisphere
- Get your shopping, dining, and wining fix along the Cairns Esplanade
And the perfect place to stay? Two great options are Park Regis Piermonde Apartments, just a short stroll from the Esplanade. Boasting the largest guest rooms in Cairns, the apartment hotel is a great choice for families and groups.
